Devan’s Athlete Meet Recaps:
I pride myself in putting as much detail and insight as possible into recapping my athletes’ competitions. I do my best to reflect on programming strategies, individual differences, history as an athlete, high/low points during prep, how meet day went itself, attempt selection strategy, and plans with any adjustments to training, programming, or technique going forward.
Give them a read!

About Myself:
Hey everyone! My name is Devan Tenney, and I am a full-time online powerlifting coach with Triumph Strength & Performance. A little about myself — I am 24 years old and originally from Massachusetts. In 2022, I graduated with my B.S. in Psychology from Bridgewater State University with the goal of becoming a Counseling Psychologist. I applied to graduate programs in hopes of pursuing my Masters in Relationship Counseling Psychology. I was admitted to a program, and accepted the offer to pursue my Masters. However, I rescinded my own admission when I decided to pursue powerlifting coaching instead. My heart is in powerlifting coaching, and I knew that the complete shift in career path was something I was willing to work towards entirely. It wasn’t until later that year when I decided to unite with Co-Founders Chris and Andy to start Triumph Strength & Performance as a business. Immediately upon teaming up, everything has been going phenomenally, and we have created a serious & organized business that I am very proud of. This business has been my priority ever since.
Over the past year, I have dedicated my time to becoming the absolute best powerlifting coach that I can be. The rate of which I was progressing as a coach allowed me to quit the job I had at the time in 2023 and pursue this passion full-time. That being said, online powerlifting coaching is now what I have dedicated my life to. I am determined to constantly improve upon every quality of powerlifting coaching out there, whether it be improving upon analysis of training videos, matching lifter psychology, learning more about biomechanics, improving upon strategies to individualize a lifter’s programming, formulating a long term plan for a meet prep, hypothesizing interventions to improving a lifter’s technique, and much more.
I consider myself personable and friendly, yet hard-handed and blunt when needed. I believe that I have ample experience working with numerous demographics which has prepared me for situations which require different problem-solving approaches. I always make sure to meet a client’s personality where it is, and make sure to treat everyone fairly and equally.
About My Coaching Philosophy:
I take my job very seriously. When a client is putting their training in my hands, it is entirely up to me to do everything that I can on my end to maximize their performance as an athlete. I do not take this for granted.
I am a firm believer of finding what works for a specific individual through trial and error. This is going to look different for everyone. I place high emphasis on programming around lifter psychology, gathering a strong set of data over time that leads us to solving problems over time. I am very data oriented and pay close attention to trends in performance, and am a firm believer in continuing to do what works once we find it, while keeping training enjoyable. That being said, this process cannot be done without high quality effective communication between the coach and the athlete. This is why I have such a comprehensive communication system — even from the first onboarding call with an athlete, I always make sure to emphasize the details to my system of communication and why each detail is being implemented. I also believe that finding what works in an athlete’s training is based on collecting high quality data and keeping records of that data as well. Referencing periods of training that were successful/unsuccessful is easy when things are diligently kept track of. So in short, I have a very communication-oriented system to base my problem solving strategies around, and make sure to keep expectations clear with that.
About My Service:
I have experience coaching lifters from a wide variety of demographics ranging from lightweight females to heavyweight males. Lifters ranging from those just getting into powerlifting, to coaching national and international level competitors. Everyones goals are different, and I’m here to help those goals be reached regardless of how high they may be set. Regardless of these goals, I do hold my lifters to a high standard and set firm expectations as to what I expect out of their training and communication with me. Specifically, I offer daily communication via WhatsApp, which is an app that I use solely for client communication. I additionally make routine block overview videos to detail each training block’s expectations, points of improvement, timing into competitions, progression rates on each lift, reasoning behind any changes that need to be made, any technical interventions being made, and more.
I am coached by Steve DeNovi, who I continue to learn from every day, and who continues to set an excellent example for what a high level powerlifting coach looks like. I have experience coaching at multiple National, Regional, and State meets within the United States. I have also sent multiple athletes to international competitions in multiple different countries throughout my career. In 2023, my roster averaged an 88.9 % attempt success rate in competition with an average of a +20kg total PR. In 2024, my roster averaged a 92.7% attempt success rate with an average of a +20kg total PR.
I offer individualized powerlifting programming, meet prep, free meet day handling contingent upon location, detailed meet day planning, and more. I currently have 3+ years of experience as a coach under my belt, and work with 30+ athletes. Additional experience coaching a wide variety of demographics, and practice with a comprehensive communication system makes me extremely confident in coaching powerlifting. On top of all this, I operate on a self-made routine schedule. To further education myself, I spend time learning from the best coaches in the game, listening to podcasts, networking with coaches that I know personally, studying my own lifters’ trends in performance, and more.
